Chairman Peter Rees previews Saturday’s home Premiership game v Llanelli

Croeso cynnes iawn i pawb o Clwb Rygbi Llanelli i Banc Yr Eglwys heddi! We welcome our friends from Llanelli to the Church Bank for the second fixture of the season with our fellow West Walians.

Whilst last season we did not have the opportunity to play Llanelli at home, this year we will welcome them back for a second visit in early April but in the meantime what can we expect out of this fixture? The equivalent away game in early September resulted in an excellent win which took the Drovers to the top of the table. For our visitors, today’s fixture comes on the back of two consecutive losses (against Carmarthen Quins and RGC 1404) whilst we have bounced back from a disappointing fixture in North Wales with a win against Bridgend RFC last week. The latter fixture had a period of outstanding defence and some sparkling tries which mirrored our September fixture in Parc Y Scarlets and has been a characteristic of all of our wins this season.

Whilst both teams will be short of some players, as they represent the region in the LV competition, I am sure that, as usual, today’s game will be a great match and an excellent curtain raiser for Wales’s first game of the Autumn series. If you are not heading off to Cardiff you are all welcome to join us in the club to watch the Australia match which of course kicks off at 5.15 pm.

Congratulations to our captain Richard Brooks who today plays his 150th game on behalf of the Drovers. Richard is proving himself to be a great skipper on and off the pitch!

I have previously advised that the WRU have once again commissioned a review of the Premiership (and championship leagues) and all members of Llandovery RFC will shortly receive an email from the club which will include a link to an on line survey drafted by the independent consultants working on behalf of the WRU. This is an opportunity for you to have your say so please complete the questionnaire at your earliest opportunity.

Our Match Sponsors are regular supporters, Adeilad Cladding of Llanwrda, and Llandrindod Club 41 who have watched the Drovers in the past but today sponsor their first game at Church Bank, thank you both. Our match ball sponsor is Alvin Phillips of Blaenos School Of Motoring, diolch Alvin!

We are delighted today, Armistice Day, to offer the Royal British Legion an opportunity to run a Poppy collection during the game and we will have a moment’s silence prior to the kick off in memory of all who have made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our country. We also mark the recent passing of Ken Evans, one of the former players who helped reform the club following the second world war. The Club is also proud to be laying a wreath in memory of our former players who have been killed in various conflicts, at the Remembrance service on Sunday morning. Please give generously to the collection, even if you might already have a Poppy!

Er Gwaethaf Pawb a Phopeth Ni Yma o Hyd! Ymlaen Y Porthmyn!
Peter Rees Cadeirydd/Chairman
