Chairman Peter Rees previews today’s home Premiership game v Aberavon
Croeso cynnes iawn i pawb o Clwb Rygbi Aberavon i Banc Yr Eglwys heddi! It is with great pleasure that we welcome Aberavon RFC back to Church Bank after only a few weeks! As an old wag was heard to say “…they are here so often they might as well pay rates!”
It seems appropriate that our first Hen Borthmyn game of the season is also the start of the season proper with once again every game worth a potential 4 points towards the final season’s tally! As the way the fixtures have worked out we will not be able to judge the comparative strengths of the leading East & West clubs until well into February.
However the good news of course is that the Drovers start this part of season as one of the top four clubs with seven points, sitting alongside Pontypridd in joint second place. The Wizards are just a couple of points behind us and travel to Church Bank after a quick turnaround from their victory against their local rivals, Neath, on Boxing Day.
With today’s match on live TV everything seems set for a great game and I know that Euros and his coaching team are hoping to reintroduce a few players into our starting line up following injuries etc. but we can be sure that whoever takes the field for the Drovers will be determined to keep the winning run going especially after the victory over the Quins on Christmas Eve. One player scheduled to make a return is Tomi Lewis after returning from overseas success on the 7s circuit and if we see a couple of tries similar to those currently featuring on “youtube” I am sure we will all be delighted!
Our match sponsor today is Phil Davies – DCM Ltd and the match ball is sponsored by our outside caterer Ozzy – thank you both! We also thank all our former players for their continued support and hope you have a great day.
By the time we kick off on the first team pitch the Athletic XV will hopefully have played Narbeth (at 2.30) in a crucial Conference fixture as we still need to secure a strong position to qualify to play in the upper tier for the second half of the season. All our league structures seem to be so complicated this season!
Over recent weeks we have had a number of supporters, visitors and sponsors opt for a pre match lunch as part of our match day “meal deal” and they have all been very happy with the package – a great meal, a great match and a drink - why not give it a try? In the meantime can I take this opportunity to thank you for your support over 2017 and wish everyone the compliments of the season with good health and fortune for 2018.
Er Gwaethaf Pawb a Phopeth Ni Yma o Hyd! Ymlaen Y Porthmyn!
