Llandovery were knocked out of the Schweppes Cup by West Wales Section B promotion rivals, Bonymaen. They were beaten by a solitary try by Derek Haste in a match they should have sewn up by the interval.
Bonymaen started well and pressurised Llandovery with their fine forwards to the fore. The Bony front five made a fearsome spectacle as they drove into the rucks and mauls.
Llandovery seemed to stand back and watch in the early phases but suddenly discovered they could match them and began to make ground. Carwyn Williams, surprisingly choosing a big match to wear new boots, was miles away with two early penalty kicks.
A clever kick led to Llandovery being presented with a four to one situation but amazingly they failed to take the chance.
Bonymaen took the lead early in the second half when their backs stormed to the Llandovery line. The forwards won quick ruck ball and a quick pass to the narrow side saw Haste over unopposed.
Promising Llandovery attacks were led by wingers Dewi Evans and Eirian Jones but the defence held out each time. The game finished when Llandovery took a slick short penalty near the Bonymaen line and were held up just short.
