What the Papers Say - Huw S Thomas reports:
The Drovers were sadly rewarded for a brave display against the Cup holders when they went down far more heavily than their efforts deserved at Stradey Park.
In the first half there was little to choose between the sides with lock Craig Yandell getting his fair share of line out balls against Tony Copsey, and half backs Adrian Williams and Richard Dix never afraid to open up. Centres Alun and captain Huw Thomas also kept a sharp eye on the Llanelli pair of Neil Boobyer and Matthew Wintle and Llandovery were unlucky not to score with a Richard Dix penalty going wide.
Llanelli had to struggle hard to be 10-0 up at half-time through a try by prop Huw Williams-Jones converted by Colin Stephens and a Stephens penalty.
Llanelli no. 8 Emyr Lewis changed things early in the second half as he bullocked over for a try and, with the mauling strength of the Scarlets pack now beginning to sap the energy of the Division 2 side, it was inevitable that the game would end in a try scoring spree.
With the Llandovery pack softened up the Scarlets moved the ball with freedom and tries came at regular intervals through Simon Davies (2), Richard Moon, Ian Jones, Ricky Evans and Neil Boobyer. Stephens kicked seven penalties in all, but at least Llandovery got the pleasure of scoring a good try near the end when Andy Hodkinson went over in the right hand corner after a fine flowing movement involving replacement Horscroft, Dix, Rowlands and Hywel Jones gave the wing just enough time to squeeze past Andrew Richards.
