What the Papers Say – Huw S Thomas reports:
Third Division Pyle came agonisingly close to knocking out Second Division Llandovery in a highly entertaining tie at Church Bank.
Llandovery’s forwards were well in control early on and, when Pyle were caught off side at a ruck, fly half David Lloyd-Jones put the Drovers ahead with a straight forward penalty after just five minutes. The fly half then increased the home lead in the 20th minute with a drop goal after his forwards had provided quick ball from a ruck.
Matthew Pearce put Pyle level with two penalties before Llandovery regained the lead when talented left wing Jeremy Griffiths raced away from 30 metres.
Pearce took Pyle back to an 11-9 with his third penalty in the 53rd minute, but five minutes later the West Walians struck back. After Lloyd Jones had jinked through to the Pyle line, the Llandovery forwards drove over for a try awarded to young hooker Hywel James, which Simpson converted.
Pyle scored a great try with 18 minutes left when Fijian Tevita Manaseitava finished off a sweeping move and sent wing Robert Bryce over for a try, converted by Pearce.
