Tondu rang the changes after an opening day defeat at Cross Keys and they paid off handsomely as they swept aside the Drovers at Pandy Park. New centres Mark Jones and Rob Walters both did well but debutant, open side flanker St John Towell took the man of the match accolade.
Sweeping Waterwheelers movements brought first-half tries for Jason Lowndes, Mark Jones and St John Towell. A penalty and conversion by former Maesteg full-back Mark Watts made it 20-0 at half time. Fly-half Austin Howells and scrum-half Richard Morgan added to the Drovers’ misery, Watts converting both.
With the game effectively over, Tondu went to sleep and Llandovery hit back with tries by David Giles and Jamie Roberts, the first converted by Carwyn Jones but it was too little, too late.
