An excellent midweek win over Pontypool proved a one-off as Newbridge returned to the kind of lacklustre performance which has seen them slide from top spot to mid-table since Christmas. They were well beaten by eager Llandovery, who scored four tries to help them steer clear of the relegation zone.
The visitors' pack gave the home forwards a pounding, while Llandovery outside-half Herman Bosman was always in control. He engineered the opening try by wing Archie Mitchell, and then scored himself. Powerful centre Tracy Lewis crossed twice before Mitchell intercepted to round things off.
Interceptions were a feature of the game. Earlier, from a similar incident, Newbridge full-back Huw Lock galloped almost the length of the pitch to score.
Newbridge's first try, just before the interval, came from wing Alun Harries, clearly the fastest man on the field.
Llandovery full-back Gary Williams kicked three penalties and one conversion, while Newbridge fly-half Jason Williams landed one penalty and two conversions.
