Match Report

Llandovery 68 – 19 Cwmllynfell

What the Papers Say - Huw S Thomas reports:

The Drovers brought the curtain down on a fine season by outplaying their Division One West opponents in the final of the Brains SA Cup at Loughor. It was the fifth time for Llandovery to win what used to be called the West Wales Tovali Cup after success in 1998, 2002, 2003 and 2012.

Despite fielding a number of second team players and some promising youngsters, the result was rarely in doubt. Llandovery included the latest Premiership Player of the Month in centre Jack Roberts – the fifth Drover to win the award this year following Rhodri Williams, Shaun Miles, Matthew Jacobs and Kieran Murphy.

Roberts, who soon moves to Championship side Rotherham, and partner Jacobs were too hot to handle whilst Miles was perpetual motion against opponents who could not live with Llandovery’s pace and bulk.

Despite an outstanding opening try from wing Tristan Lewis, Cwm had their backs to the wall all through once centre Alex Wilkins was red carded. They leaked 12 tries - seven in the first half and five in the second half - against one of the best attacking sides in the Premiership.

Locks Shaun Jones – soon off to Championship side Leeds Carnegie – and Bryn Griffiths dominated the forward exchanges and Man of the Match scrum half Lee Rees sent his backs racing away at every opportunity.

Cwmllynfell did the best they could in scoring three tries but by the end were relieved to see the game finish seven minutes early.
