DROVERS TITTLE-TATTLE 17 Feb 2010
A weekly diary of news from Church Bank by Huw S Thomas
Tonmawr
The Drovers will not find it easy at Tonmawr in Saturday’s 3rd round Swalec Cup tie. Former Drover and Welsh international Tal Selley will be in the Tonmawr side.
Llandovery RFC’s newly formed Supporters Club have organised a 53 seater to Tonmawr. Details from Clayton Griffiths on 07791-912287
Las Vegas 7s
Drovers wing Ifan Evans was again in the limelight at the IRB 7s in Las Vegas over last week-end. Despite losing to England 26-10, Wales got through their pool with wins over Argentina 21-15 and Japan 22-5 only to go out to eventual winners Samoa 17-10 in the quarter-final of the Cup.
Tomas Marks
In France, former Llandovery fly-half Tomas Marks kicked two penalties to help Le Bugue beat Oloron 17-12. He also got on the score board in the 38-18 win over Vallée du Girou. Fédérale 1 side Le Bugue play in the level just below the full time professional Top 14 and Pro 2 leagues and are in the same pool as once famous clubs Lourdes, Graulhet and Périgueux.
Nigel Clarke
Few have contributed so much on and off the field than former Llandovery No 8 Nigel Clarke who has had to give up coaching the Youth XV because of work commitments. Blessed with a touch and feel for the game reserved to the few, his coaching has produced some outstanding Drovers XVs.
Tarpaulin
There was a real threat that frost might threaten Friday’s evening game against Pontypool but Roger James and the ground staff - plus half a dozen committee volunteers - took the precaution of covering the Church Bank pitch with a tarpaulin on Wednesday night. The pitch was in perfect condition for the Pooler match.
